Pamplona, 9th February 2012. The architect from Navarre, Francisco Mangado, director of the Mangado y Asociados studio and lecturer at the School of Architecture at the University of Navarre (Universidad de Navarra), will today be sworn in as an honorary international member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

This distinction, a post held for life, is awarded annually to professionals from around the world, except the United Kingdom, to recognise their personal contribution to architecture. On this occasion seven architects from Europe and Asia have received the award. In addition to Francisco Mangado, another Spaniard is an award-winner, being Carlos Ferrater from the Oficina de Arquitectura in Barcelona. The other recipients of this award are; Momoyo Kaijima and Yoshiharu Tsukamoto, from Atelier Bow Wow (Japan), Sou Fujimoto (Japan), Anna Heringer (Germany/Austria) and Christian Kerez (Switzerland).

Francisco Mangado was born in Navarre in 1957. He is an architect at the Escuela Superior de Arquitectura (College of Architects) at the Universidad de Navarra (University of Navarre), where he has been working as a lecturer since 1982. In the field of teaching, he has also been a visiting lecturer at the Graduate School of Design at the University of Harvard and Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor of Architecture at the College of Architecture at the University of Yale. At present, he is a visiting lecturer at the EPFL in Lausanne. In 2008 he created the Fundaciķn Arquitectura y Sociedad (the Architecture and Society Foundation). He has received numerous prestigious national and international awards such as the FAD 2004 prize, Construmat 2009, the National Architecture Award in 2009, the Copper Prize in 2009, the Gold Medal Giancarlo lus awarded by the UIA, or more recently, the 'Chicago Athenaeum 2011'.
